Statement of Éirígí for the Belfast’s Pride Festival

Statement of the Irish republican party Éirígí concerning their particiaption to the Belfast’s Pride Festival.

“On Saturday August 6th éirígí activists were proud to take part in Belfast’s annual Pride Festival. Éirígí has tirelessly campaigned and stood in solidarity with the LGBT community in their struggle for equal rights.

Over 40,000 people took to the city centre and marched in support of equal rights, marriage equality and LGBT expression. It’s great to see so many people from all walks of life, and from different parts of the political spectrum united against homophobia and injustice.

In 2016 the LGBT community are still denied the right to marriage, this is a reflection of the Stormont establishment and its failure to represent and deliver basic civil rights to citizens of the North.

It’s imperative that we strive to achieve and implement the ideals and principles outlined within the Proclamation – ‘Cherishing all the children of the nation equally’. Éirígí reiterates its support for the LGBT community in their fight for equal and civil rights and we do so with pride.”
