Police Report 3 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed Battling Security Personnel Along Nuapada-Gariaband Inter-district Border

Khorda District, January 3, 2025: Security forces have gunned down three persons alleged to be cadres of the CPI (Maoist) during a joint operation along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on Friday, Gariaband Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jitendra Chandrakar announced to the press today.

As per the ASP’s report, the operation, which began on the intervening night of January 2 and 3, targeted purported Maoist strongholds in the border areas of Odisha’s Nuapada district and Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district.

According to the report of the ASP, an exchange of fire occurred at around 11 am today between the security personnel and a squad of individuals believed to be Maoists at Atang Forest, located in the border areas of Nuapada and Gariaband districts.

The ASP’s report stated that the joint operation involved a combined force of Special Operation Group (SOG) teams, Chhattisgarh Special Forces, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The ASP concluded his report by saying that apart from the bodies of three supposed Maoists, five weapons have also been recovered from the scene, the exchange of fire is still underway, and that further details are awaited.
