Police Officials Claim 10 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed Battling Security Personnel In Sukma District

Sukma District, November 22, 2024: Speaking to the press today, a police official claimed that at least ten cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Friday.

“The firefight broke out in the morning in a forest near Bhandarpadar village in the jurisdiction of the Bhejji police station, where a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation,” said Sundarraj P., Inspector General of Police (Bastar range).

The police official stated that personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the combing operation based on intelligence inputs concerning the the presence of high-ranking cadres from the Konta and Kistaram Area Committees of the Maoist party in the forested hills of Korajguda, Dantespuram, Nagaram and Bhandarpadar villages.

During this operation, the encounter suddenly broke out when the security personnel were fired upon by a squad of armed persons purportedly belonging to the Maoist party. Afterwards, searches were conducted, and at around 11 am, the security forces found 10 bodies of persons they claimed were Maoists. This was reported to the press by police sources.

“The bodies of 10 Maoists, including three women, clad in uniform, have been recovered thus far from the site of the encounter,” the police official commented, adding that 12 weapons, including an INSAS rifle, an AK-47 rifle, a self-loading rifle (SLR) and barrel grenade launchers (BGLs), were also seized.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Madkam Masa, a divisional committee member and military in-charge of the south Bastar division of the Maoist party, and Lakhma Madvi, an area committee member, the police official alleged.

The other deceased were said to include Masa’s wife Dudhi Huni, his guard Kowasi Kesa, Madkam Jitu and Madkam Kosi, he said. The four were suspected to be members of platoon no. 4 of the PLGA (the armed wing of the Maoist party). The police official remarked that the identity of the remaining four deceased persons was yet to be ascertained.

According to police sources there has been no report of any security personnel sustaining injuries in the gun battle.
