Police Constable Killed By IED Blast Triggered By Naxalites In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, May 18, 2021: An IED blast was carried out by Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh state on Tuesday in which one police constable was killed and another policeman was said to be injured. A police official said the incident took place at 9.30 am in Kutru police station area, about 450 km from Raipur.

He said a team of security personnel was conducting a search operation in the area to ensure the safety of ongoing road construction work there. According to the official, when the patrol cordoned off the forest near Ambeli village, about four km from Kutru, the Naxalites detonated an IED.

He further informed that head constable Kalendra Prasad Naik was killed and constable Kamal Thakur was injured by the IED blast. The official said that a search operation is still going on in the area, and that the bodies of the injured policeman and the deceased head constable have been taken to Bijapur.
