Police Claim 5 Naxalites Killed In Exchange Of Fire With Security Personnel In Bijapur District
Bijapur District, January 12, 2025: Five individuals police claim are Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P announced to the press today.
According to the IGP’s report a firefight broke out in the morning between security forces and a squad of persons police believed to be Naxalites in the forest of Bandepara-Koranjed villages under Madded police station limits, when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation.
The IGP stated in his report that the combing operation, involving personnel of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and District Force, started on Saturday based on intelligence inputs concerning the movement of Naxalites in the area, which falls under Indravati National Park.
The IGP concluded his remarks by saying that the intermittent exchange of fire lasted till 3-4 pm, and following the skirmish the bodies of five Naxalites, including two women, clad in ‘uniform’ were recovered from the site, adding that one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one 12 bore rifle, two Single Shot rifles, one Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), one muzzle loading gun and cache of explosives were seized by the security personnel, and that the identity of the deceased persons purported to be Naxalites is yet to be ascertained.
