Police Claim 4 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Balaghat District
Balaghat District, February 19, 2025: Four persons police believe to be cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with security personnel in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district, Balaghat District Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Dabar announced to the press today.
According to the ASP the gun battle broke out in the morning at a location some 90 km away from the district headquarters.
In his report the ASP stated that, based on intelligence inputs concerning the movement of Maoists in the area, a combing operation by a joint team of the State’s anti-Maoist unit Hawk Force and local police was launched in the early morning near Rhonda Forest Camp in Supkhar Forest Range, close to the Chhattisgarh border.
In his prepared statement the ASP said that additional persons believed to be cadres of the Maoist party were injured in the firefight who managed to escape into the dense forest, and that an extensive search operation to locate these people is underway by 12 teams of Hawk Force, CRPF’s CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and local police.
As per the report of the ASP, the bodies of three alleged Maoists were recovered in the early hours, while a fourth body was found during a search operation in the evening.
The ASP concluded his remarks by stating that police recovered an INSAS rifle, a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and a .303 rifle, besides essential daily use items, from the site of the alleged encounter, adding that the four deceased persons were yet to be identified.
On Madhya Pradesh’s southeastern border, Balaghat is reportedly a Maoist-affected district and shares its boundaries with Kabirdham and Rajnandgaon districts of Chhattisgarh and Gondiya and Bhandara of Maharashtra.
