Police Allege 7 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Encounter With Security Forces Along Narayanpur-Datewada Inter-District Border
Narayanpur District, December 12, 2024: Seven alleged cadres of the Maoist party were killed in a fierce encounter that broke out between security forces and a squad of Maoists along the inter-district borders of Narayanpur-Dantewada in Abujhmad area in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Thursday morning, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced at a press conference today. The encounter reportedly lasted over seven hours.
“Based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in the south Abujhmad region, a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) left on an anti-Maoist search operation on December 10. As the search operation moved ahead, a skirmish began at around 3 am on December 12 after the Maoists opened fire on the security personnel who came close to their location. So far, the bodies of seven individuals we believe to be Maoists have been recovered from the encounter site during a search operation”, stated a police official in Bastar district.
According to the police official, the Maoists were said to be clustered together in the area and surrounded by the security personnel.
The police official stated that the security forces have intensified their search operations in the region and further details are awaited, adding that the bodies of the alleged Maoists recovered from the site of the gun battle are yet to be identified.
The seven whose bodies were recovered were said by the police official to be dressed in the uniform of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the CPI (Maoist).
Dantewada and Narayanpur are among the seven Maoist-affected districts in the Bastar region.
