From Ang Bayan: USA Dropping Ukraine Is A Warning To The Philippine Puppet State

US president Donald Trump’s blatant dropping of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting at the White House on February 28 should serve as a warning to US lapdog Ferdinand Marcos Jr. In this meeting, Trump told Zelensky that he should be grateful to the US and follow its wishes because the latter has no hope of winning the war against Russia without the US.
Trump is pushing to “end” the war in Ukraine while his administration is in the process of making arrangements with Russia regarding energy supply to Europe. He is pushing for Ukraine to surrender up to 50% of the country’s raw materials to the US as “payment” for all the military aid and weapons it has poured in over the past three years. Trump is now using Zelensky’s “disrespect” for the US and his office to withhold military aid to Ukraine.
“The US government is ready to deploy troops, escalate conflict, and initiate proxy wars to strategically promote its geopolitical agenda even at the cost of undermining the sovereignty of other nations. It can also abandon its so-called allies if it thinks that it will favor the greedy interests of Big Business and their cronies in the US,” said the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan. In light of this, Filipinos should learn that the US’s alleged ironclad commitment to defend the country against foreign invaders is a hollow promise.
Bayan condemned Marcos Jr for his subservience to the US and his use of the Philippines’ conflict with China to justify the expansion of the presence and military operations of American troops throughout the country. In addition to increasing military bases, Marcos also allowed the launching of large-scale war games, positioning of the Typhon missile system and establishment of command centers inside AFP camps.
“Marcos Jr and the US government have maliciously connived in legitimizing the colonial narrative that a permanent US military presence is needed to secure the country’s borders,” according to Bayan.
It added that the heated exchange between Trump and Zelensky, which ended in shouting, proved what the group has been saying all along that the US is not a “benign power,” but only considers its own interests in dealing with other countries.
Instead of being subservient to US doctrine, it said the Philippines should uphold an independent foreign policy.
“Instead of doing the dirty work of the US by dragging the country into a proxy war of global superpowers, the Philippine government should exhaust all peaceful and diplomatic means to resolve our conflict with China,” it said.
The group again called for the scrapping of lopsided agreements between the Philippines and the US, kicking out US military bases and expelling American troops from the country.
