In Surprise Move, Chand Led CPN Fields Candidates In Local Elections In Rolpa District

Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist filed nominations for the upcoming second phase of local level elections at Thabang Rural Municipality in Rolpa.
Earlier, the party had strongly maintained that it would not take part in the civic polls. However, Amit Gharti Magar and Bir Mali Budh Magar filed their nominations for chair and vice-chair respectively of Thawang Rural Municipality, yesterday. It is said that the party also filed nominations for various posts in different wards of the rural municipality.
A central leader of the party said nominations were filed in the rural municipality as the local people pressured the party to do so. The party filed the nominations as independent candidates in all five wards of the rural municipality for the post of ward chair.
It is said that Bir Bahadur Gharti and Ram Kirani Roka from CPN-Maoist Centre filed nominations for chair and vice-chair respectively in Thawang Rural Municipality.
Similarly, Hit Bahadur Roka Magar and Jan Roka Magar from CPN-UML filed their nominations for chair and vice-chair respectively in the rural municipality.
However, no nomination was filed from the Nepali Congress for the post of chair in the rural municipality. Both UML and CPN-MC filed nominations in all the wards of the rural municipality. An independent candidate, Bhakta Bahadur Gharti, also filed his nomination for the post of chair of the rural municipality.
