Naxalite Killed In Firefight With Police In Gadchiroli District
Gadchiroli District, April 2, 2023: A Naxalite was killed on Saturday in an encounter with police in a forest in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district.
The firefight broke out between the Naxalites and C60 Commandos of Gadchiroli police at around 10 am in the Kiarkoti-Abujhmad forest in Bhamragarh taluka.
A huge cache of weapons, electronic devices, solar panels and other items have been recovered from the spot after the gun battle which lasted for around an hour.
Gadchiroli police had received intelligence input that the Naxalites are instigating people of the Todgatta area to intensify ongoing protests against developmental activities and the establishment of police camps.
Acting on the input, Gadchiroli police’s C60 anti-Naxal squad on Saturday morning launched an operation in the Abujhmad forest bordering Chhattisgarh state.
During the operation, they came under indiscriminate fire from a squadron of 60 to 70 Naxalites hiding in the Hiker forest who used BGL and other weapons.
The security personnel retaliated and engaged with the Naxalites for approximately an hour. Eventually, the Naxalites managed to flee into the dense forest.
The body of a male Naxalite was found in the forest area during the search and has been identified as Sameer alias Sadhu Linga Mohanda (31).
A search operation is still underway in the forest area.
