Police Claim 8 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, February 1, 2025: Eight persons believed to be Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday, a police official announced to the press today.

According to the police official, the firefight began around 8.30 am in the forests of the Gangaloor police station area when a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Maoist operation.

In his report, the police official stated that the combing operation was launched on Friday, following intelligence inputs about the presence of cadres from the West Bastar Division of the Maoist party in the region.

As per his prepared statement the police official said personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) of the state police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), were involved in the combing operation.

The police official concluded his remarks by saying that the security forces had been engaged in intermittent gunfire with the alleged Maoists since the morning, adding that more details about the encounter are awaited as the combing operation is still ongoing, and that patrolling and search operations continue in the area to ensure security and gather further intelligence.
