Police Claim 2 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Exchange Of Fire With Security Personnel In West Singhbhum District

West Singhbhum District, January 29, 2025: Two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire between security personnel and a CPI (Maoist) squad in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar announced to the press today.

According to the SP the encounter took place on Wednesday morning in the Maoist-affected Sonuwa police station area of the district while a joint team of Jharkhand State Police and the CRPF’s 209 CoBRA Battalion were out on an anti-Maoist combing operation following intelligence inputs received by the SP that cadres of the Maoist party had gathered in the Sonuwa police station area to carry out a major action.

The SP stated in his report that after the information concerning the presence of Maoists in the area was received by his office a search operation was launched by the State police and CRPF in the jungles. During the combing operation, a squad of persons purported to be cadres of the Maoist party began firing as soon as they saw the security forces who returned fire, leading to a skirmish.

In his statement to the press the SP said two individuals alleged to be Maoists were killed and a security person was injured in the firefight, which lasted 30 minutes, and that the rest of the supposed Maoists managed to escape by taking advantage of the dense forest.

The SP concluded his written remarks by declaring that one of the alleged Maoists killed in the encounter has been identified as Sanjay Ganjhuthe, reportedly a zonal commander of the Maoist party, adding that the search operation in the area is still on.
