Encounter Underway Between Security Forces And Naxalites In Sukma District

Sukma District, October 3, 2024: A major encounter is currently underway between security forces and a squad of Naxalites in the forests of Bottalanka and Erapalli under Chintalnar police station area of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, a police official announced to the press today.

The encounter broke out in the woods of Bottalanka and Erapalli soon after the security forces, acting on intelligence inputs concerning the presence of Naxalites in the area, which is believed to be a stronghold of the Naxals, began a search operation, the police official declared.

Acting on the intelligence inputs, a joint team of DRG, CoBRA and CRPF personnel cordoned off the area and launched a combing operation which turned into an encounter between the security forces and Naxalites, the police official remarked.

According to sources in the Sukma district police, the Naxalites attacked the security forces with BGL, followed by intermittent firing between the two sides which is ongoing at this time.

Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said that a detailed press statement about the skirmish will be issued on the return of the security forces from the area, adding that Sukma CRPF DIG Anand and Konta CRPF DIG Surajpal Verma are in constant touch with the security personnel.
