CPI (Maoist) Squad Clashes With Security Forces In West Singhbhum District
West Singhbhum District, September 7, 2022: A fierce encounter broke out between a squad of cadres belonging to the CPI (Maoist) and security forces during a search operation on Wednesday in Rengrahatu village under Tonton police station in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
The battle began at 6 am and lasted for about an hour. The police eventually overpowered the Maoists, after which they fled from the spot. During a search following the engagement, six tents were found in the area in which Maoist pamphlets, bags and other items were recovered.
SP Ashutosh Shekhar said that a continuous campaign is being run by the Chaibasa police against the Maoists. In the past, two Maoists were killed in an encounter as part of the campaign. Acting on a tip off that Ajay Mahto, a member of Maoist party’s Misir Besra squad, was present with his squad in Rengrahatu village, the search operation was started.
Based on the inputs, the CoBRA and CRPF personnel along with the district police conducted a search operation in the area. As soon as the security forces stepped into Rengrahatu during the search operation then the Maoist ambush began when they started firing on the security forces. No one died in this encounter, and Ajay Mahto escaped with his squad. Around 25 Maoists were present on the spot.
According to information, a large number of police and paramilitary personnel drawn from the CRPF and the Jharkhand Armed police are involved in the operation.
During the operation, the security forces have recovered tents, uniforms, utensils and items of daily use belonging to the Maoists.
Sources informed that a sudden rise in the Maoists activities have led the security forces to intensify the patrolling in the dense forests of Saranda area.
