CPI (Maoist) Militia Commander Killed In Skirmish With Security Forces In Bijapur District
Bijapur District, January 12, 2024: A militia commander of the CPI (Maoist) was killed on Friday in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police announced to the press today.
The skirmish took place in the afternoon in a forest near Pusnar village under Gangaloor police station limits when the District Reserve Guard of Bijapur and Dantewada and the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 85th battalion were on an anti-Maoist operation.
Intelligence inputs were received about the presence of leading cadres of the Maoist party, including Gangaloor area committee secretary Dinesh Modiyam, and some 20-25 armed Maoists in Pusnar forest. In the ensuing firefight, Maoist cadre Toya Potam alias Somlu was killed.
Potam was a militia commander of the Maoist party. Four warrants were pending against him. He was involved in attacks on security forces, a police official said.
Three to four Maoists may have been injured in the encounter, the official said, adding that arms, explosives and other items have been recovered from the site of the gun battle.
