Sukma District, October 7, 2024: A police official announced to the press today that an individual allegedly belonging to the Maoist party was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Monday.
The police official claimed that the firefight between a joint team of security personnel and a squad of armed cadres purportedly belonging to the Maoist party took place in the evening on a forested hill near Pamlur village under Bhejji police station limits when the security forces were out on an anti-Maoist combing operation.
Personnel belonging to the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters, the Central Reserve Police Force and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) were involved in the combing operation, the police official declared.
The police official stated that the combing operation was launched on Sunday night based on intelligence inputs concerning the presence of cadres supposedly belonging to the Konta and Kistaram area committees of the Maoist party in Pamlur, Dabbakonta, Burklanka and Singhanmadgu villages.
After the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a person presumed to be a Maoist, along with a firearm, was recovered from the site of the encounter, the police official reported, adding that a search operation was still underway in the area.
