6 Alleged CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Bhadradri Kothagudem District
Bhadradri Kothagudem District, September 5, 2024: Six persons alleged to be cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an exchange of fire between a squad of supposed Maoists and the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana state, a police official announced to the press today.
Two commandos of the Greyhounds, the elite anti-Maoist force of Telangana State Police, were also injured in the encounter and were shifted to a hospital and their condition is out of danger, the police official said.
The exchange of fire took place at around 6:45 am in the forest area of Mothe village under Karakagudem police station limits when the armed persons presumed to be cadres of the CPI (Maoist) opened fire on the police party which was on patrol, a press release from police stated.
After warning the purported Maoist cadres to cease fire, and, as the firing from the alleged Maoists did not stop, the police party also returned fire. Following the firefight, the police party searched the area and found six bodies, clad in olive green clothes, the police statement said.
The six dead were reported to be cadres of the Maoist party’s Bhadradri Kothagudem-Alluri Sitharamaraju Divisional Committee, the police statement claimed.
The identities of the deceased is yet to be established, the police statement declared.
Based on intelligence inputs that a team of supposed Maoist cadres crossed over to Telangana state from neighboring Chhattisgarh state, special police parties took up a combing operation in the area where the incident is alleged to have occurred, a senior police official told the press.
The dead included a suspected senior cadre of the Maoists, the police official attested based on a preliminary investigation, adding that police had recovered weapons including two AK-47, one SLR, one .303 rifle, one pistol and magazines, live rounds, kit bags and other materials from the spot, and that a further investigation was ongoing.
