5 Alleged CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed In Firefight With Security Forces Along Border Of Narayanpur And Kanker Districts
Raipur District, November 16, 2024: Five individuals whom police claim are cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces today in the Abujhmad area, located along the inter-district borders of Narayanpur and Kanker in Chhattisgarh state, a police official announced to the press today.
Two DRG jawans sustained bullet injuries during the firefight, but their condition is reported to be stable, the police official stated.
“Based on an intelligence input about the presence of Maoists in the north Abujhmad region, a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Border Security Force (BSF) left on the planned operation,” the police official declared.
“During the search operation at around 8 am, an encounter resulted after the alleged Maoists opened fire on the security forces as they came close to the location of their hideout. So far, the bodies of five persons purported to be Maoists have been recovered from the site of the gun battle,” the police official stated.
The security personnel recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition. Intermittent firing continues, while the troops have intensified their search operation in the region, the police official commented, adding that the two injured DRG jawans have been shifted to the hospital for immediate medical care and that further details are awaited.
Kanker and Narayanpur are among the seven Maoist-affected districts of Bastar region.
