3 CPI (Maoist) Cadres Killed During Encounter With Security Forces In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, January 20, 2024: Three cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in a skirmish that broke out with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday morning, a police official announced to the press today.

The encounter broke out while security forces were conducting a search operation near the Belam Gutta Hills under the limits of Basaguda Police Station at around 7:30am, the police official declared.

The police official stated that a joint search operation by the Chhattisgarh State Police and a unit of the elite CoBRA commandos was launched near Belam Gutta Hills following the receipt of intelligence regarding the presence of high ranking Maoists, including Divisional Committee member Vinod Karma, Awapalli LOS member Raju Punem, ACM Vishwanath, Guddu Telam and 20-25 armed cadres of the Maoist party in the area was obtained.

In the midst of this search operation, security forces encountered a squad of armed Maoists and a firefight ensued, during which three cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed, the police official commented, adding that arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the gun battle.

The police official concluded by saying that a search operation is currently underway in the area of the encounter, and that more details are awaited.
