1 CPI (Maoist) Cadre Dead Following Encounter With Security Forces In Kanker District

Kanker District, July 9, 2024: A cadre of the CPI (Maoist) was killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel in Chotebethiya police station limits of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh state on Tuesday.

The encounter took place in Binagunda forest area when a joint team of security forces comprising personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Bastar Fighters, (a unit of the state police), was out on a routine search operation in the area.

According to official police reports, while searching the area the security team was ambushed by a squad of Maoists who opened fire indiscriminately upon the security forces to which the latter retaliated heavily, neutralizing a female Maoist cadre in the firefight.

The deceased Maoist was reported to be a member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army, armed wing of the CPI (Maoist), whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

Following the encounter, the joint team also recovered a 303 rifle and ammunition along with seizing other daily use material from the site of the gun battle. The development has been confirmed by a senior official of the police and more details of the encounter are still awaited.
