1 CPI (Maoist) Cadre Dead Following Encounter With Security Forces In Bijapur District

Bijapur District, July 22, 2023: A cadre of the CPI (Maoist) was killed in a firefight with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday, police reported.

The skirmish took place at around 7 am at a forested hill near Kesamundi village under the Bhairamgarh police station limits when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation, a senior police official stated.

Acting on specific inputs about the presence of 10-15 armed cadres of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the CPI (Maoist) in the forests surrounding Potenar-Kesamundi villages, personnel belonging to District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and CRPF’s 222nd battalion launched the operation on Friday night, he continued.

When the patrolling team was cordoning off the area this morning, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides that lasted for about half an hour, the official said.

After the firing ceased, the body of a Maoist cadre was found at the scene, the police official said, adding that the identity of the deceased Maoist was yet to be ascertained.
