PFLP Leaders Ahmed Sa’adat, Ahed Abu Gholami, and Walid Hanatsheh Released From Solitary Confinement
Palestine, May 22, 2023: The Handala Center for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners confirmed on Monday that the Israeli Prison Administration (IPA) has yielded to the pressures of the prisoners and ended the solitary confinement of imprisoned PFLP leaders Ahmed Sa’adat, Ahed Abu Gholami, and Walid Hanatsheh.
In a statement, the Center announced that as a result of yielding to the pressure exerted by imprisoned members of the Marxist-Leninist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in Israeli occupation prisons over the past few days and their threat to wage a wide battle inside the prisons, the IPA proceeded to end the isolation of PFLP Secretary-General Ahmed Sa’adat and return him to “Ramon” prison.
The IPA also ended the isolation of PFLP leaders Ahed Abu Gholami and Walid Hanatsheh and transferred them to the “Nafha” and Gilboa prisons respectively.
The Center stressed that pressure is underway to stop the Israeli occupation attack against PFLP prisoners and end the Israeli campaign of transferring prisoners.
Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees warned the IPA against pursuing its decision to continue imposing solitary confinement for the second week in a row against prisoner Sa’adat and his fellow leaders.
Israeli media claimed that Sa’adat was transferred from the ordinary section of “Rimon” prison to solitary confinement, after conducting an interview for the Algerian newspaper Al-Khabar.
The IPA claimed Sa’adat did not obtain permission to conduct the interview, adding that the PFLP leader touched on the conditions of the prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
He also talked about the conditions in occupied Palestinian territories and pointed to a third Intifada that would be more dangerous to the Israeli occupation than its predecessors.
