USA : The Progressive Student Organization of Napa is now the Revolutionary Student Organization of Napa – we call all Students of Napa to fight for Revolution!

Our organization is a mass organization, guided by our Points of Unity towards the construction and strengthening of a revolutionary and militant force of the people. We aim to fight against all types of oppression and injustice, with the people on our side. As an organization, we understand that to fight oppression and to end exploitation, we must struggle for the overthrow of capitalism and establishment of a socialist society through revolution. The students and youth of the world tire of politics, and for the most part, remain apathetic, and there is a reason for this apathy that has nothing to do with our generation, our age, or any sort of stereotype constructed by older generations to obscure the real issue. Students don’t care about politics because they are taught that politics must be constrained to voting and within the current system they find themselves oppressed by. The system, no matter who is elected, no matter whether the Green Party or the Republican Party or the Democratic Party are in power, will remain oppressive.

The brutal and cruel system of capitalism-imperialism has put many of these students into poverty and/or made students feel unsafe to go to school because of their race, sexuality, gender, ability, or religion. The education system itself is full of injustices, such as standardized testing, reactionary propaganda in our textbooks, and the suppression of political discussion. Branches of the United States Military recruit on our campuses and prey especially on the poor, convincing them that the way out of poverty is to go fight for the same institution that put them in the place they are. Disrespectful and condescending police linger on campuses, eager to talk down on students and treat them like prisoners. Additionally, if students manage to survive high school’s trials, the higher education that they have been told they must receive comes at an exuberant cost, and is often 4 or more years of the same old shit.

These conditions have persisted regardless of what happens in the government, and since students recognize the electoral shenanigans of this country as “politics”, we have no reason to care about it. Students, by and large, have little to no interest in who wins or loses the political game, because the effect it has on their out is minimal. Regard or interest for such games is the lowest among the most oppressed and poor of our society, because a politician has never done anything for them. Oftentimes, their parents have never voted, because their parents know that there is no point in taking the time out of the day to go write on a meaningless piece of paper that will do nothing to change their lives. Civic engagement has nothing to offer students of this country, and thus, we will continue to remain bored of the yammering of Republicans, Democrats, Greens, or Libertarians. Instead, we take interest in politics that will make change for us, that will better our lives : revolutionary politics. Only the overthrow of capitalism and our oppressors can give us the lives and futures that we desire! Only with the destruction of the capitalist system will we be able to strive for real equality or for real change in our schools and lives.

For all these reasons, our organization shall change our name from the Progressive Student Organization of Napa to the Revolutionary Student Organization of Napa. We are not to be conflated with the so-called “progressivism” that does nothing to serve the people. Our politics are not in favor of the preservation of the system, nor do we buy into the lie that this system can be referred to become just. We know that the only liberation of the people will come through the destruction of the United States and the economic system of capitalism! We will not toss aside students who don’t see the false importance of elections as “stupid”, nor will we channel the righteous anger of the people into meaningless non-profits or NGO efforts. We will not defend rhetoric that threatens the people of color, queer people, non-Christian people, or disabled people for the sake of “freedom of speech”. We will not cooperate with the police force that beats and murders people across the country everyday, nor with the military that kills across the world for the ruling class of this country.

Instead, we will struggle alongside many others in this country towards revolution, towards real change. We will combat gentrification, we will combat racism, we will combat queerphobia. We will fight against police brutality. We will fight alongside the students and working people of Napa. We will fight for the attainment of our Platform. We will raise revolutionary consciousness of the masses.

We call upon all students and youth of Napa to join the Revolutionary Student Organization in the fight for liberation!
