The family, comrades, and friends of Comrade Jose Maria Sison launched an activity on December 15 in Utrecht, the Netherlands to commemorate the second anniversary of his martyrdom. The JMS Legacy Foundation, with the theme “Ang Gabay (The Guide): Continuing the Legacy of Jose Maria Sison,” organized the gathering. The activity was streamed live to allow comrades from the Philippines to participate.
Comrade Julie de Lima, head of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines negotiating panel and widow of Ka Joma, served as the main speaker in the program. She focused her speech on their life-long partnership as revolutionaries from their youth to the underground movement and the life in exile. Comrade Julie also shared important points in the history of the Party’s founding and the advancement of the revolutionary movement in the Philippines.
Comrade Louie Jalandoni also gave a speech and tribute at the event. His speech highlighted the correct path taken by the revolutionary movement in advancing the Second Great Rectification Movement and the current rectification campaign called for by the Central Committee of the Party. He said these aim to struggle against and rectify the erroneous lines hindering the revolutionary struggle.
With the two, different generations, veterans, and young activists paid tribute to Ka Joma. Among them were Comrade Judy Taguiwalo who was part of the First Quarter Storm, Anakbayan national spokesperson Mhing Gomez, academic and teacher Sarah Raymundo, International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) secretary general Azra Sayeed, and a young woman labor organizer in the US. They highlighted in their speeches and tributes the contributions of Ka Joma to their work and experience as activists.
The tribute also included the official presentation of the JMS Legacy Foundation. Its executive director Dan Borjal explained the foundation’s mission: to preserve and continue Ka Joma’s revolutionary legacy. He said the project will serve as a resource center for providing Ka Joma’s writings and works to add to the rich arsenal of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism.
