From Ang Bayan: FFPS To Mount Protests Against Attacks On NDFP Peace Consultants
Ang Bayan Ngayon | November 24, 2024
The Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) has called for action from all its members and allies around the world on November 30. The planned action aims to expose and condemn the repression and attacks on the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace consultants.
“In a desperate attempt to instill fear among the Filipino people and crush the revolutionary movement, the reactionary government has imprisoned, abducted, tortured, and extra-judicially killed NDFP peace consultants,” stated the FFPS.
The Marcos regime’s latest in its series of attacks on the NDFP was the arrest of three of its consultants in October. State forces apprehended Wigberto Villarico on October 24, Simeon Naogsan on October 21, and Porferio Tuna on October 2. These arrests violate the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG).
The JASIG is an agreement that guarantees the safety of all participants in peace negotiations. It prohibits the surveillance and arrest of negotiators, consultants, and other personnel. It was signed on February 24, 1995, under the Ramos regime.
The Marcos administration’s armed forces have killed at least five NDFP consultants. An NDFP consultant’s enforced disappearance has also been recorded, while a total of five were illegally arrested.
“The attacks by the Marcos Jr administration only derail the very possibility of dialogue,” the FFPS added. The first anniversary of the Oslo Joint Statement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) was commemorated, signed on November 23, 2023.
The group also noted that the Marcos regime lays bare its intention to pursue an unprincipled peace by forcing revolutionary forces to surrender their arms without sincerely addressing the roots of the armed conflict.
“These state-backed tactics are futile against a people driven by the profound injustices injustices perpetrated by US foreign domination, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism, and a longing for justice and liberation,” the FFPS explained. The Filipino people’s revolutionary movement remains firm, and the FFPS’s solidarity with them remains strong, they stated.
The FFPS encourages its members and allies to launch protest actions, take photos and videos with statements and calls to action, create guerrilla art, or launch cultural programs.
“Together, let us honor their courage and stand in full solidarity with the Filipino people’s struggles for national and social liberation,” the FFPS called out.
The FFPS is an international group of foreign supporters of the national-democratic movement in the Philippines. It has member organizations from North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
