With the boundless support of the peasant and indigenous minorities of Bukidnon Province, a unit of the New People’s Army (NPA) staged a successful ambush against the fascist troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines last October 24 in Purok 7, Sitio Mahayag, Barangay Saint Peter, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

According to a belated report, the NPA was able to seize an R4 high-powered rifle, a vest and magazines, a glock pistol, 10 military packs, scores of ammunition and other supplies. At least three enemy forces were killed in action. Other soldiers scampered away.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) hails and commends the NPA cadres for their bravery and guerrilla prowess. The ambush is a strong response to the people’s demand for justice and an end to the AFP’s reign of unmitigated terrorism in Bukidnon and other parts of the country.

The tactical offensive is an clear demonstration of the NPA’s determination to wage armed resistance against the superior enemy force. The NPA is ever committed to fight with the people to defend the economic, political and cultural rights of the peasant and minority masses, especially against the all-out aggression by multinational corporations that are grabbing farmlands and ancestral lands, accompanied by the fascist militarization of local communities.

In another report, an NPA unit successfully foiled an attempted raid by combat troops of the AFP’s 26th Infantry Battalion against an NPA camp in Sitio Kimam, Barangay Binicalan, San Luis, Agusan del Sur Province last October 14. Alerted by the local masses, the NPA cadres quickly packed-up the camp and took position for an ambush. The raiding soldiers were forced to retreat and abandon four military packs.

In another encounter in the same barangay last October 22, the same rampaging battalion of the AFP suffered heavy casualties, with five killed in action. The Party and NPA mourn the loss of NPA cadre Ike Dahonay (Ka Tres), who made the ultimate sacrifice for the people’s struggle for national democracy.
