From Ang Bayan: NPA Thwarts 2nd IB Attack, Kills 10 AFP Soldiers In Masbate Province

The New People’s Army (NPA)-Masbate (Jose Rapsing Command) Red fighters killed ten 2nd IB soldiers on September 15, at 8 am in Sityo Calanay, Barangay Banco, Palanas, Masbate province in a counter-raid action. The Red army blasted a command-detonated explosive against the attacking soldiers.

The Red fighters maneuvered safely without damage despite the 2nd IB’s raid, Ka Luz del Mar, NPA-Masbate spokesperson, said. The spokesperson belied the 9th ID statement that the people’s army suffered casualties.

“Many witnesses said the bodies of the fallen soldiers were swiftly retrieved in an attempt to hide their casualties,” Ka Luz said. The Masbatenyo people, especially those in areas near the scene of the incident, are also celebrating the fate of the military murderers. Many shout “Marise!” (You reap what you sow!).

The 2nd IB unit that attacked the people’s army was in Barangay Bigaa for the Retooled Community Support Program. “[They] were ordered to retaliate after the series of successful guerrilla actions the Red Army launched recently,” Ka Luz said.

“Despite exhaustion from the operation and the pursuit of the [Red Army], they failed and even suffered a heavy blow because of the Army’s readiness,” Ka Luz added. She further explained that CAFGU, police, army and their relatives were already disappointed at the their organization’s rotten and corrupt culture even provided helpful information.

Due to the humiliation, the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police poured 200 military and police personnel into the barangays of Banco, San Carlos and Bigaa in Palanas town. The farmers and residents fear the soldiers will target them for retaliation.

Residents reported that the military attempted to ransack some households in Barangay San Carlos hoping to track down alleged wounded people’s army members. Soldiers in pursuit also stole a resident’s chickens.

Ka Luz reminded the NPA-Masbate units that this “defensive battle is a challenge for the NPA-Masbate to continue to persevere in launching tactical offensives to punish the AFP-PNP-CAFGU for their crimes.”
