CPI (Maoist) Squad Exchanges Fire With SOG Unit In Boudh District
Boudh District, January 23, 2024: An exchange of fire took place between a unit of the Odisha State Police’s elite Special Operations Group (SOG) and a squad of armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist) on Tuesday in Boudh district, a police official reported to the media today.
The skirmish took place near Matakupa reserve forest along the Boudh-Kandhamal district border when the SOG jawans were undertaking a search operation at Sagada, a senior police official engaged in the anti-Maoist operation declared.
The official said the Maoists, about 25 to 30 in number, belonging to the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh Division of the CPI (Maoist), fled away from the spot following the encounter leaving behind a few camp articles and one sophisticated weapon. It is suspected that a few Maoists have sustained injuries, the police official commented.
The police official stated that the firefight lasted more than 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, combing operations have been intensified with the deployment of more SOG jawans following the gun battle. A search and combing operation is continuing, the police official added.
